Personal Transformation High Holidays Mussar Workshop

mussar workshop

In this two part workshop, American Mussar Founder Greg Marcus leads a highly interactive experience to help you prepare for the high holidays, and then craft an action plan to make your insights and desires into reality.

A note from Greg

For those of you who have ever gone to services on the High Holidays, you may remember the long lists of sins. I’ll be honest, for me they are one of my favorite parts. Even when I never did anything Jewishly except go to services on the High Holidays, I found those lists a helpful way to evaluate my life.
Yep,did that one. No, not that one. Never heard of that one.
And year after year, certain things kept coming up. When I was an active workaholic, zeal for bad causes was a regular for example.
I would have an insight and resolve to change something, only to have that same issue appear again next year in my reflections
Does this ever happen to you?
The reason the same things kept coming up year after year is that I had no plan to make a change.
This process of self-examination is called Accounting of the Soul. It is the same thing we do year round as part of a Mussar practice. The High Holidays are like the World Series of Accounting of the Soul, a chance to make amends with people we’ve hurt, and an opportunity to take on some of the things holding us back from being our best selves.
When I brought Mussar mindfully to my High Holiday insights, real change started to happen.
There is no magic bullet that can make it all change. But, together as a community we can support each other on that journey. That is exactly what happened when we met for the first Personal Transformation workshop, and I’d love for you to join us this year.

Personal Transformation Mussar Workshop Details

Prior to the high holidays, we’ll meet in a highly interactive webinar in which we’ll focus on the soul traits of Humility and Truth to get us get in touch with who we are, and what we need to work on. You’ll walk away with a clear sense of exactly what you want to focus on as you go through Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.

Then after Yom Kippur, we’ll meet to design a transformation action plan specific to your life to help you make the changes you’d like to see in the new year. This includes specific practices to help you make and sustain these changes.

What crossroads are you at?

Each and every one of us has the opportunity to be a Mensch. All we need is a manual, and Mussar provides that manual.  As you know from reading my blog posts, you know something of my journey, and  how Mussar has made a difference. Mussar can help you identify those things inside holding you back from being your best self, and offers a path towards balance, healing, and transformation.

So the question to ask yourself is, “What crossroads are you at today?” Learning to recognize our choices is a key part of the transformation process. These issues can be hard and scary and messy. Having a warm community environment of fellow travelers can ease the path of transformation.

One Small Step

If there is one thing I’ve learned, it is that one small step is all it takes for transformation. One small step is the whole game, because once you’ve taken the first step, it is easier to take the second step, as it says in the Talmud, “One Mitzvah leads to another Mitzvah” (Ethics of the Fathers 4:2)

If you are ready to take that first step, please register for the Personal Transformation Through the High Holidays Workshop.

You’ll get access to both webinars, the worksheets, email prompts, with an optional 1:1 coaching call.

What People Say About Mussar Workshops With Greg

Greg’s virtual Mussar workshop really made my Jewish High Holiday season so much more meaningful, and spiritually relevant. Also, being able to share the journey with other individuals, who were also in the process of transforming their lives, was the true delight. I most heartedly recommend these superb Mussar workshops to anyone, of any faith, who wants to dig deeper into their soul to help achieve a more magnificent sense of calmness and peace. I have registered to participate again this year. – Selina Glater

Before I met Greg, I did not know what Mussar is. Greg’s clear and wise way of presenting and engaging people in Mussar has allowed me to develop both a daily practice and ongoing reflection. I encourage anyone who is interested in Mussar to learn from Greg and American Mussar. – Elisabeth Sylvan, Ph.D

My wife and I have participated in several Mussar classes led by Greg. He is an excellent teacher and facilitator; in each class, he has a manner and approach which enables the students to find their own path to an insight. The discussions he leads have been meaningful and compelling, and makes connecting the particular Mussar topic under question connect deeply the participants’ everyday life. – Micah Yairi
